We have added this page to give you all an update on the progress so far *** Updated Aug 17 ***

Where is the time going ..... It doesn't seem 5 minutes ago since we collected the keys to "The Shoes" !

So what have we been up to since the last update?

After 4 months, the Scaffolding has finally come down, this will allow the ground floor windows to be finished, lets hope for good weather. The scaffolding leaving will also allow the remaining ground work to be undertaken. The main external work is the installation  of french drains. When The Shoes was built all those years ago "damp proofing" was not even a consideration, along with no building control or health and safety !!!  So these french drains will help take water away from the base of the building and improve internal damp issues.

Another source of the damp was the cement render caked on the outside, this had been acting as a seal, keeping moisture in the building fabric and not letting it breath. So all cement render has gone (taken away in 4 skips) and new traditional lime render has been applied, this allows water and moisture to escape and is much more in keeping with a building of this age and construction.

You may have seen that most of the new wooden windows have been installed, we are just working on the time consuming task of painting each one now (where is the good weather when we need it ).

Inside we hope you will like the changes.

The old back bar (at the rear of the building) is now the restaurant, we are still working in this area but the wooden floor remains, new lighting is going in and the purple walls will soon be a distant memory. The bar counter in this area has been refreshed and turned 90 degrees and an original bricked up door way reopened connecting the lower bar to this space.

The bar in the room with the large open fire place was rotten and was full of woodworm so had to go as beyond saving, in its place is a bespoke handmade Oak bar that has taken our local carpenter weeks to completed, we are very happy with it and hope you like it too. In this area the ceilings were particularly poor, again being damaged by damp and woodworm. All the timber has been treated and new plasterwork carefully replaced. The lovely fireplace has been restored and we can't wait to light it. Wiring in this area (and all others) has been updated and tested.

The upper bar (the area facing the road with the large window), has received the same attention as all other areas, wall paper and carpet are being installed mid Aug, this area will have a lovely leather Chesterfield sofa to relax into along with more traditional seating and tables.

One unexpected issue was the cellar cooling system, it failed a recent gas pressure test so needed to be replaced. This work is underway now, it needs to be right as this is the heart of the pub !

The ladies and gents toilets have swapped round, both now fully retiled, the new toilets and urinals are being fitted, new floor in both continues along the corridor.

Finally the commercial kitchen has been taken back to brick and had a new roof installed. All new appliances are to be fitted, however given the time taken to sort out all other areas its unlikely the commercial kitchen will be ready by end of Aug but we are targeting end of October.
